Nov 25, 2018

PARKES, Central West, NSW, Australia – Police in the Central West this week seized 19 guns owned by a 24-year old man.

Police found the guns at a home in Peak Hill, a town of 800 people in the Parkes Shire while executing a Firearms and Weapons Prohibition Order (FPO/WPO) search.

Police served the order on the 47-year-old occupant who was not the owner of the guns.

The firearms, all registered to a 24-year old man who was not at the home at the time, were all locked in two secure gun cabinets.

However there was one gun left unsecured which was loaded.

The registered owner of the firearms, later turned himself in at Parkes Police Station where he was issued with a Future Court Attendance notice for ‘Not ensure safe keeping.’

Police allege the firearm was left unsecured whilst the 24 year-old was not there. The firearm was not secure and in the presence of the 47 year-old who was subject of the FPO and WPO.

The 24 year-old man will appear at Peak Hill Local Court on Thursday 18 January 2019.

The man’s firearms licence was seized and a suspension notice was issued to him when he called at the Parkes Police Station.

The only charge the man faces relates to the one unsecured weapon. It should be stressed there is no issue with the ownership of the guns, all nineteen are registered to the man, and were all, but one, securely locked away.
