16-year old youth arrested after series of break-ins in Bathurst, Orange

BATHURST, Central West, NSW, Australia – Just under two weeks ago, over a period of 5 days, there were multiple break-ins of homes in Bathurst and Orange, resulting in the theft of a large number of cars.

Police on occasions were called to the scene as the burglaries were taking place, and were engaged in a number high speed chases to try and catch the person or persons responsible.

NSW Police claim that among the stolen vehicles were a Volkswagen Amarok, Toyota Tarago, Ford Ranger, Ford Falcon, and a Mercedes-Benz.

The Central West Police District launched a thorough inquiry subsequent to the reports of the multiple break-ins occurring in the residential areas of Bathurst and Orange which occurred between Friday, April 19, and Tuesday, April 23, 2024.

After extensive investigations, police apprehended a 16-year-old boy at Orange Local Court around 10:30 a.m. on Friday. The youth was subsequently transported to Orange Police Station, where he was formally charged.

The teenager was granted conditional bail and is scheduled to appear before a children’s court on Thursday, May 23, 2024.

Inquiries into the matter are still ongoing as part of Operation Regional Mongoose.

“Operation Regional Mongoose,” is an initiative which aims to crack down on significant property-related offenses, particularly those committed by youthful offenders.
