US road travel increases to near pre-pandemic levels

Dec 27, 2022

WASHINGTON D.C.: In October, vehicle travel rose by 0.1 percent to 285.9 billion miles, nearing pre-pandemic levels for the year, according to the U.S. Transportation Department.

As gasoline prices have fallen in recent months, road travel has been rising, with October travel slightly surpassing 2019 pre-pandemic levels.

In the first 10 months of 2022, overall U.S. road travel was estimated at 2.73 trillion miles, some 1.5 percent higher than 2021, but slightly lower than the 2.74 trillion miles for the same 10 months in 2019.
