Tokyo protests Russia’s declaration on day of victory over ‘militaristic’ Japan

TOKYO, Japan: Tokyo has lodged a protest against Russia over its decision to declare 3rd September as the “Day of Victory over Militaristic Japan,” according to Japan’s Chief Cabinet Secretary Hirokazu Matsuno.
“The passage of this law could not only stir anti-Japanese sentiment among the Russian people but may also lead to anti-Russian sentiment among the Japanese people,” Matsuno told a press conference this week, calling Moscow’s move “extremely regrettable.”
Japanese media reported that last week, Russia renamed the commemoration day of Japan’s surrender in World War Two.
