Apr 12, 2024

LONDON, UK: The world’s oldest man, John Alfred Tinniswood from the UK, said the secret to his long life is luck, moderation, and fish and chips every Friday.

Following the death of the previous record-holder, Venezuelan Juan Vicente Prez, this month at 114, Tinniswood, 111, has been confirmed as the new holder of the title by Guinness World Records.

Gisaburo Sonobe from Japan, the next longest-lived person, died on March 31 at the age of 112.

On Thursday, Guinness World Records presented Tinniswood with a certificate at the care home where he lives in Southport, northwest England. The retired accountant was born in Liverpool on August 26, 1912, and served in the British Army Pay Corps in World War II.

Tinniswood said moderation was key to a healthy life, adding he never smokes, rarely drinks, and follows no special diet.

“If you drink too much or you eat too much or you walk too much, if you do too much of anything, you are going to suffer eventually,” Tinniswood told Guinness World Records.

“But ultimately, it is pure luck. You either live long or you live short, and you cannot do much about it,” he added.

Spain’s Maria Branyas Morera, 117, is the world’s oldest woman and oldest living person.
