Search for shooters after slayings in Kansas City, Kansas bar

Oct 8, 2019

KANSAS CITY, Kansas – In another mass shooting in the U.S., two gunmen have burst into a bar in Kansas City, Kansas, and randomly shot nine people, killing 4 of them.

The gunmen allegedly entered the Tequila KC Bar just before closing time at 1:27am Sunday morning. The bar which opens at 9:00am daily was due to close at 2:00am.

Kansas City Police spokesperson T.J. Tomasic confirmed that four people had been killed, and 5 others shot. The injured he said had been taken to local area hospitals.

The two gunmen had been drinking in the bar earlier but had an altercation with other drinkers. One of the men was refused service. When this happened he allegedly threw a cup at bartender Jose Valdez and stormed out.

“We think there was something that happened in the bar earlier,” Tomasic said. “Unfortunately, they left and decided to take it to another level, came back and started shooting.”

“Its a pretty small bar,” Tomasic added, “so if you have two guys come in and start shooting, people are just running, running anywhere they can.”

The officer cautioned that the investigation was in its early stages, that several witnesses had given differing accounts of what had occurred, the surveillance tapes were still to be studied, and the suspects have not been apprehended and questioned.

“My thoughts are with the victims and their families and friends after a mass shooting early this morning in a Kansas City, Kan., bar tragically left four people dead and five more wounded. We are closely monitoring the situation with the help of local law enforcement,” Kansas Governor Laura Kelly said in a statement Sunday.

The Tequila KC Bar, on Central Avenue, near 10th Street, only opened in May last year.
