PSA to protest in Katoomba on cuts to National Parks and Wildlife Service

Oct 19, 2017

KATOOMBA, Blue Mountains, NSW, Australia – New South Wales public servants are up in arms over what they describe as drastic cuts to the National Parks and Wildlife Service.

The Public Service Association (PSA) is holding rallies across the state today in protest.

Rallies will be held in Katoomba, Queanbeyan, Grafton, Griffith and Wollongong.

The PSA says the cuts will leave large areas of the state exposed to feral animals, and has taken the rare step of releasing photos of recent gruesome attacks on livestock.

The government is overseeing the scrapping of 13 Area Managers, who the PSA say are critical to pest and bushfire management

The National Parks and Wildlife Service will be downsized from 66 areas across the state, to just 37 under the restructure.

The PSA says it is concerned that at a time when the wild dog populaion is peaking in the bush, the cuts will leave farmers having to deal with significant stock losses alone.

The rally in Katoomba will take place at 12 noon today at Carrington Place, which is next door to the Carrington Hotel in Katoomba.
