Polish woman jailed in Dubai for extorting Australian man

DUBAI, UAE – A Polish woman has been jailed in Dubai after trying to extort money from a married Australian man with whom she had an affair.

The 45-year old native from Poland, was able to extract AED 300,000 (USD 81,500) from her former lover, an Australian man aged 57.

After receiving the funds, the woman, a beautician, then demanded a further AED 1 million (USD 272,000) or she would make contact with the man’s wife, children and other family members and tell them of the affair, which lasted for six months from September 2022 to March 2023.

The man refused, and the woman then sent intimate photos of the couple to the man’s family, including his wife and children.

The Australian, a consultant, contacted police in May last year and the woman was arrested.

Last week, on Wednesday, the woman was convicted by the Dubai Criminal Couirt, and was sentenced to three months in jail, after which she will be deported.

A civil claim for AED 51,000 (USD 13,900) lodged by the man for emotial duress was referred to the Dubai Civil Court.
