Police finally get man after pursuit across NSW Central West

Feb 20, 2020

BATHURST, Central West, NSW, Australia – A man appeared in Bathurst Local Court on Thursday following a rampage across the New South Wales Central West.

The saga began around 7:00am on Wednesday when the man was involved in a domestic incident at a Cowra home. It is alleged the man slashed the tyres of a vehicle before he took off from the house in a Mitsubishi Lancer.

A short time later, police received reports that a Mitsubishi Lancer was involved in a collision on the Mid Western Highway, 25 kilometers north of Cowra. After being involved in the collision, the driver fled the scene in the Mitsubishi Lancer.

Around 8:15am, Traffic and Highway Patrol officers attached to Chifley Police District tried to stop the man, still driving the Mitsubishi Lancer; however, the vehicle failed to stop and a police pursuit was instigated, heading north along the Mid Western Highway.

At Fitzgeralds Mount, roads spikes were successfully deployed; however, the Mitsubishi Lancer continued travelling towards Bathurst before it was involved in a minor collision – with a police vehicle.

The Mitsubishi Lancer finally stopped and after a brief struggle, the driver, a 41-year-old man was arrested. He was taken to Bathurst Base Hospital under police guard for treatment of minor injuries.

It was found the man had an AVO out against him. He was charged with a string of offences including reckless driving, negligent driving, destruction of property, and contravening the AVO.

He was refused bail ahead of Thursday’s Bathurst Local Court appearance.
