KATHMANDU, Nepal – On Wednesday, a rapidly speeding fire ripped through Jaralhawa Gachhi village in Ward 6 of Matihani Municipality in Mahottari, burning at least 110 homes.

According to Hari Prasad Mandal, mayor of Matihani Municipality, a fire broke out from a haystack about noon, destroying 110 dwellings in Miyatol and Hattatol. Around 7 p.m., the inferno was brought under control.

“The fire was extinguished by personnel from the Nepal Army, Nepal Police, and Armed Police Force, as well as local civilians, using four fire engines. “Many families have become homeless,” Mandal said.

Food grains, clothing, and other personal goods were destroyed in the incident. Many domestic animals were also burned to death.

“We have yet to determine the entire scope of the devastation. “Our current efforts are focused on providing immediate relief to the displaced people,” said Shivaram Gelal, Mahottari’s district officer.

He says many displaced people are now finding refuge in a nearby school building.

In recent weeks, fire incidents, both home and forest fires, have increased in various regions of Madhesh Province.

Due to dry weather and strong winds, the fires expanded and caused massive harm.
