SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, California: On March 23, authorities said that a mountain lion killed one man and injured another in Northern California.

The two men were out hunting for shed antlers, authorities added.

The El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office said it received a call from an 18-year-old man in the afternoon to report that a mountain lion attacked him and his 21-year-old brother in a remote part of the county.

According to the statement, deputies arrived at around 1:30 p.m. to find the younger brother with “traumatic injuries” to his face, and a crouched mountain lion was next to the older brother on the ground.

The officers fired their guns and scared off the mountain lion, but the older brother was deceased.

The mountain lion is being tracked by wardens with California’s Department of Fish and Wildlife.

According to a verified list kept by the fish and wildlife department, the last fatal human incident involving a mountain lion was in 2004 in Orange County.
