Many children dead and missing following Delhi building collapse

DELHI, India – Five people have been killed in a building collapse in the Indian capital of Delhi. Another 3 are missing, while as many as eight are reported injured.

The dead included four students, aged 10 to fifteen, and a tutor. They were in an under-construction coaching center in the Bhajanpura district, a residential area in the North East District of Delhi, collapsed.

“Five, including 4 students died in a building collapse in Delhi’s Bhajanpura area,” Delhi Fire Service said on Saturday.

Four students aged 10-15 years and one tutor died in the incident, while eight others are injured, DCP northeast Ved Paraksh Surya said Saturday.

“Deeply saddened to learn of the tragic deaths including those of innocent children during the building collapse in Bhajanpura, East Delhi,” Delhi Lieutenant Governor Anil Baijal posted on Twitter on Saturday

“May God give strength to their family and loved ones to deal with this tragedy,” he added.

“Have directed all concerned to provide all possible support for the speedy recovery of the injured. Action will be taken against those found guilty of lapses which led to this tragic accident.”

BJP MP Manoj Tiwari visited the construction site to meet with villagers.
