Man whose car hit pedestrian in Central West was four times over limit

CENTRAL WEST, NSW, Australia – A man driving a car that struck a woman in the Central West 3 weeks ago, leaving her critically injured, was found to be four times over the legal limit.

The incident occurred around midday on Tuesday 19 May in a car park at the rear of Orange Health Service, in Orange.

Officers from Central West Police District attended along with NSW Fire & Rescue and NSW Ambulance paramedics.

The 51-year-old woman was trapped under the man’s Ford Territory for a short time, before being released by NSW Fire & Rescue and being flown to Westmead Hospital in a critical condition.

The driver of the Ford, a 60-year-old man, sustained minor injuries and was taken to Orange Health Service for treatment and mandatory testing.

Following inquiries, the man was arrested at Orange Police Station about 11:00am on Tuesday of this week.

He was charged with aggravated dangerous driving occasioning grievous bodily harm, high range PCA and negligent driving occasioning grievous bodily harm. His licence was suspended.

Police allege the man returned a blood alcohol reading of 0.217.

The man was granted conditional bail to appear Orange Local Court on Monday 17 August 2020.
