Israel Defense Forces name soldiers killed in rocket attack

GAZA – Two teenagers were among 3 Israeli army soldiers killed in a rocket attack on Sunday.

Hamas claimed responsibility for the attack which involved the firing of ten rockets toward the Kerem Shalom area along the Israel-Gaza border.

Although militant groups have fired tens of thousands of rockets towards Israel over the past two decades or more, they rarely find a target and have caused few casualties.

Sunday’s strike however was deadly for the two 19-year olds and a 21-year old. Three other soldiers were reportedly injured and are in serious condition, while a further 7 troops were treated for light to moderate injuries.

The army has named those who died (pictured left to right) as St.-Sgt. Tal Shavit, 21, of Kfar Giladi; St.-Sgt. Ido Testa, 19, of Jerusalem; and St.-Sgt. Ruben Marc Mordechai Assouline, 19, of Ra’anana;

Assouline and Testa served in the Shaked Battalion in the Givati Brigade, while Shavit served in the 931st Battalion in the Nahal Brigade.

The IDF said it halted the flow of humanitarian trucks through the Kerem Shalom crossing soon after the attacks, while the Israel Air Force took to the air with a series of bombing raids over Rafah.
