Indiana drug bust: Trump inspires a fervid global drug trend

Jul 5, 2018

INDIANA, U.S. – Ecstasy pills bearing the U.S. President Donald Trump’s face have been spotted in various circles, not just in the U.S. but also in other parts of the world.

Becoming somewhat of a global trend over the last year, the Trump-shaped pills, became available in the orange color globally.

Then, evolving some more, the orange Trump-shaped pills received the name ‘Great Again’ and the words, that are part of Trump’s oft-used slogan ‘Make America Great Again,’ were even embossed on the backside of the ecstasy pill.

With the face of the American president being used to market the happy pill, its description and growing popularity soon drew drug enforcement officers to follow trails and bust operations involving the illegal drug in bulk.

In August last year, the Trump-shaped pill was seized in Germany for the very first time.

Police in northwestern Germany’s Osnabrueck area said at the time, that they had seized a massive haul of the popular party drug.

Further, investigators were said to have been visibly amused after discovering the orange pills in the shape of Trump’s head.

The police said that they seized about 5,000 of the orange ecstasy tablets that were believed to be worth 39,000 euros ($45,900).

Ever since then, the orange pills have turned up in a series of raids in different parts of the world.

The orange Trump themed pills have been discovered in America for the first time, as part of the major drug raid carried out by the Indiana State Police.

Revealing that the operation had spanned six days during the month of June, the State Police said that they had seized a large shipment of the orange ecstasy pills bearing Trump’s face.

Tens of thousands of those orange pills, that were found inside the seized shipment, were believed to be worth tens of thousands of dollars.

The ‘Operation Blue Anvil,’ which was led by the State Police, involved assistance from nine departments in north central Indiana.

By the end of the operation, the police said that they had made a total of 129 arrests and had seized thousands of drugs, including the brand new Trump ecstasy pills, which had the words ‘Great Again’ embossed on the back.

The team also revealed that they had seized other narcotics during the operation, including cocaine, heroin, LSD, methamphetamine, marijuana, psilocybin mushrooms, marijuana edibles, MDMA, and other prescription drugs.

According to police sources, the pills had gained popularity as “GREAT AGAIN,” a nod to the U.S. President’s campaign slogan.

Investigators however, did not clarify whether the orange pills had originated in the U.S.

Experts have noted that ecstasy tablets usually make nods to big brand or famous people as a marketing technique – but are actually just a method to identify different batches.

A crowd-sourced website called Pill Report, that provides reviews and warnings related to different pills, has noted that in recent months, pills featuring the faces of the North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, the Cartoon Network characters Rick and Morty and that of Heisenberg from Breaking Bad.

Further, the website has pointed out that pills themed around popular tech companies, including green WhatsApp pills, yellow Snapchat ones and orange Tesla pills, continue to dominate the market.

However, these three pills in specific were seen to be so strong when tested, that a ‘take care when consuming’ warning was issued on the website by the drug charity, The Loop.
