Central West road toll soars after another fatal crash in Dubbo

DUBBO, Central West, NSW, Australia – Shockingly, a little over 36 hours after a double fatality near Dubbo, another person has been killed in a crash in the city.

The latest fatality, which saw a man burnt to death, extends a shocking streak of carnage on NSW Central West roads, where eight people have now been klilled in just over two weeks.

About 11:20am on Monday, emergency services were called to Wellington Road, north of Eulomogo Road, near Dubbo, after reports a car left the road and hit a tree. before bursting into flames

Police attended and located the vehicle ablaze. Once the fire was extinguished, a body was located inside the vehicle.

While not positively identified, the body is believed to be that of a 68-year-old man.

Officers from Orana Mid-Western Police District are investigating the incident.

The road was closed for four hours whilst the scene was examined by a forensic team.

Not much more than a day-and-a-half earlier, two men were killed when their Toyota Hilux rolled over a number of times before coming to a standstill, after which they were hit by another car. The tragic incident occurred on the Mitchell Highway  about 20kms southeast of Dubbo, just before 10:00pm on Saturday night.

The now triple-fatality in less than two days follows a horror five days towards the end of last month when five people were on killed on Central West roads in five days. The death toll now stands at 8, in just over two weeks.
