Arrest after high speed police chase through Blue Mountains

KATOOMBA, Blue Mountains, NSW, Australia – Blue Mountains police engaged a man in a high speed police chase on the weekend after he was spotted flashing his high-beam headlights at oncoming cars, in an apparent attempt to dazzle other drivers.

Blue Mountains Traffic and Highway Patrol officers were conducting high-visibility patrols of the Great Western Highway at Leura, when they noticed a Ford Territory flash it’s headlights at on-coming vehicles.

When officers attempted to stop the vehicle, it continued driving and a pursuit was initiated.

The vehicle stopped on Third Avenue, North Katoomba, where the 34-year-old man was arrested and taken to Katoomba Police Station.

He was charged with a number of offences including flashing his lights in a manner likely to dazzle other drivers, not following the directions of police, refusing to produce a driver’s license, refusing to reveal his name and address, and resisting arrest.

He is due to appear before Katoomba Local Court on Monday 7 July 2020.
