Amusement park in North Carolina closes ride due to support beam crack

Jul 5, 2023

CHARLOTTE, North Carolina: An amusement park in North Carolina closed one of its popular roller coasters, Fury 325, after discovering a crack in one of its support beams. Known as the “tallest, fastest, longest giga coaster in North America,” Fury 325 spans across both North Carolina and South Carolina, according to the park’s website.

Footage of the ride captured the moment when the support beam bent and visibly detached, while the roller coaster cars with passengers continued their whirlwind journey. Ensuring the safety of their visitors, Carowinds officials promptly shut down the ride and released a statement emphasizing their commitment to safety.

They reassured guests that daily inspections are conducted, as part of their comprehensive safety protocols to maintain the proper functioning and structural integrity of all rides, including Fury 325.

Fury 325 made its grand debut in 2015 and came with a hefty price tag of approximately $30 million for construction, as reported by news sources. While the amusement park did not provide a specific timeline for the ride’s repair, they confirmed that the rest of the park would remain open.
