72-year old woman struck by car and killed while cycling in Bathurst

BATHURST, Central West, NSW, Australia – A 72-year old Bathurst woman is dead after the bicycle she was riding was struck by a car on Wednesday.

The collision occured around 11:15am Wednesday at the intersection of George Street and Stanley Street, Bathurst.

In a statement, police said they understood the woman on the bike was making a right turn from George Street into Stanley Street when she was hit by the car, a Subaru.

The woman was treated at the scene by NSW Ambulance paramedics before being taken to Bathurst Hospital in critical condition.

She was then airlifted to Westmead Hospital where she died a short time later.

The driver of the car, a 34-year-old Windradyne woman, who was uninjured, was taken to Bathurst Hospital for mandatory testing, before being taken to Bathurst Police Station.

Officers from Chifley Police District have since charged the woman with dangerous driving occasioning death, driving in a dangerous, manner and negligent driving (occasioning death).

She was granted conditional bail to appear before Bathurst Local Court on Monday 22 June 2020.

Police say a report will be prepared for the information of the Coroner.
