PARIS, France – A fire in Paris which has killed 8 people and injured at least 30 others may have been deliberately lit.
Paris prosecutor, Remi Heitz, made the claim on Tuesday, as news broke that a woman had been arrested in connection with the fire.
The blaze broke out in a building in south-western Paris, in the upmarket 16th arrondissement, a short distance from the Eiffel Tower on Monday night.
A number of fire brigades rushed to the scene. There were around 200 firefighters battling the blaze at the peak.
“When we arrived, we were faced with an apocalyptic situation. Lots of people were calling for help from the windows”, a s;pokesman for the fire service said.
Three firefighters are among the 30 injured.
The eight story building had been built in the 1970s.
