Jun 1, 2024

LONDON, England: Britain has seen over 10,000 asylum seekers arrive by boat so far in 2024, according to government figures.

While 2023 saw a one-third decline in illegal immigrants arriving by boat, 2024 data reports 10,170 arrivals between January and May 25, compared to 7,395 over the same period last year.

“We continue to work closely with our French partners to prevent crossings and save lives,” an interior ministry spokesperson said after release of the new numbers.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, who has called for July elections, said asylum seekers who come to Britain illegally would not be deported before elections.
