YUMA, Arizona – Two U.S. Marine pilots have been killed during a training mission on Saturday night.
The two were in charge of a AH-1Z Viper attack helicopter which crashed near Yuma, Arizona at around 8:45pm local time on Saturday night.
“A somber day for the MAGTFC/MCAGCC team as we mourn this loss and stand alongside these Marina families during this time of unimaginable loss,” the MAGTF Training Command/Marine Corps Air Ground Combat Center at 29 Palms posted on Facebook on Sunday.
The pilots were flying in a training mission, a statement from the Marine Corps Air Station at Yuma released on Sunday said.
“Two Marine pilots were killed as a result of an AH-1Z Viper helicopter crash in the vicinity of Yuma, Arizona, at approximately 8:45 p.m., March 30, 2019,” the statement said.
“Both pilots were conducting a routine training mission as part of the Weapons and Tactics Instructor course 2-19.”
“The cause of the crash is currently under investigation,” the Marine Corps Air Station at Yuma statement said.”The names of the deceased will be withheld until 24 hours after next-of-kin notification.”
