BANGKOK, Thailand: The two sons of Thai King Maha Vajiralongkorn have concluded their unexpected visit to Thailand after a 27 year absence, leaving without offering any comments on their return.
Vacharaeson Vivacharawongse, aged 42, arrived in Thailand last week and participated in activities such as visiting a child care center and joining in religious ceremonies at a temple in Bangkok.
Media outlets over the weekend captured photos of his younger brother, Chakriwat, who had also arrived and joined in a hospital visit and paid homage to their ancestors.
Their visits come amidst a challenging period for the royal family, as the monarch’s eldest daughter has been in a coma since December.
As he departed from the country’s main Suvarnabhumi airport, Vacharaeson shared with reporters, “This week went by quickly. We had many things we wished to do and see in Thailand, but time was limited.” He added, “We were met with love and warmth by everyone we encountered.”
Vacharaesorn and Chakriwat are the second and third sons of King Vajiralongkorn’s second wife, Sujarinee Vivacharawongse, a former actress whom the then-crown prince divorced in 1996. Following the divorce, he, his mother, three brothers, and one sister became estranged and moved abroad, due to his mother being publicly accused of adultery.
