NEWCASTLE, NSW, Australia – A search operation resumed early Sunday morning for a missing man after a boat overturned at Swansea on Saturday night.

Swansea, located at the entrance to Lake Macquarie from the Pacific Ocean in New South Wales, Australia, is part of the City of Lake Macquarie and regarded as part of Greater Newcastle.

Emergency services were called to Channel Street, Swansea, around 7:50 pm on Saturday following reports of multiple people in the water after a small boat overturned. Upon arrival, officers from the Lake Macquarie Police District found that three men, aged 23, 23, and 20, had been pulled from the water at Dobinson Drive, Swansea. However, a 23-year-old man was still missing.

NSW Ambulance paramedics treated the three rescued men at the scene, with one of the 23-year-olds being taken to hospital due to hypothermia. The boat’s master, also 23, was taken to hospital for mandatory testing.

A multi-agency search for the missing man was conducted, involving Marine Area Command, PolAir, the Westpac Rescue Helicopter, and Fire and Rescue NSW. The search was suspended due to poor light but resumed at 7 am Sunday.
