Indecent assault alleged at suburban Sydney aged care home

SYDNEY, Australia – A man more than 100 years old will appear in a Sydney suburban court next month charged with indecent assault.

This is not a historical alleged sex crime, the incident to which the charge relates to occurred on Tuesday.

The man, who is 102, is charged with indecently assaulting a younger woman, eight years his junior. She is 94.

The extraordinary case came to light when the victim of the alleged assault notified staff at the residential care home where she and her alleged attacker lived.

The facility, known as the Bupa Queens Park aged care home, is located opposite Queens Park in the Sydney eastern suburb of Waverly.

Officers from the Eastern Suburbs Police Area Command attended the home around 12:30pm on Tuesday, and after making inquiries,  the 102-year old man was arrested and taken to Waverly Police Station and charged with aggravated indecent assault.

The man was granted conditional bail to appear at Waverley Local Court, in Sydney’s eastern suburbs on 20 November 2018.

Bupa the operator of the residential facility where the man and woman live, has seventy residential care homes in locations throughout Australia, thirty of which are in New South Wales. They are home to 6,700 residents. Seventy one of those reside at the Queens Park, Waverly facility.
