Aug 3, 2023

TOLEDO, Ohio: The Ohio State Highway Patrol said a Bell 206L-4 helicopter hit power lines and crashed near highway I-70, killing the pilot and causing several auto crashes.

The aircraft was flying in Clark County when it hit the lines and crashed into a cornfield on the weekend, authorities added.

State troopers said that the pilot, Isaac Lee Santos, 36, of Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, was pronounced dead at the scene.

According to the Springfield News-Sun, the aircraft was owned by Helicopter Applicators Inc. of Gettysburg, which provides aerial services for farms and other industries.

Authorities said that power lines fell onto the westbound and eastbound lanes of I-70, resulting in minor crashes involving seven vehicles, but no other injuries were reported.

The highway was closed for about five hours as Ohio Edison crews worked to restore power to the area.

The Federal Aviation Administration, National Transportation Safety Board and highway patrol are investigating the accident.
