Nov 22, 2018

LITHGOW, Central West, NSW, Australia – The lawyer for NRL player and South Sydney Rabbitohs captain Greg Inglis was in Lithgow on Thursday to attend the Local Lithgow Court.

The matter of Inglis’s DUI charge was up for mention, and his lawyer James Jordan, entered a guilty plea on Inglis’ behalf.

“He does consider himself to be a role model and he hopes that in accepting full responsibility, he will be able to continue as a role model,” Mr Jordan told reporters outside the Lithgow courthouse.

He said his client was not in attendance as he was having treatment for a shoulder injury.

Inglis was in a black Mercedes Benz on the Great Western Highway at Lithgow on 1st October 2018 driving from Dubbo to Sydney, after participating in the Koori Rugby League Knockout when he was stopped by police. He was clocked doing 99 kilometres an hour in an 80 kilometres an hour zone.

He admitted he had been drinking the night before and had stopped in Lithgow where he had a schooner at a club.

“He was asked if he had consumed any alcohol recently and he replied: ‘We lost the football in Dubbo yesterday and I had alcohol last night’ and ‘I just finished one schooner at the club in Lithgow about 10 minutes ago’,” the police report said. “Police were of the opinion that he was remorseful for a miscalculation that led to this matter,” the report added.

Inglis was taken to Lithgow Police Station where a breath test returned a low to mid-range reading of 0.085.

It was the first time the Souths captain had been charged with drink-driving.

Inglis’s lawyer was successful with an application he made before the court in Lithgow on Thursday in having the matter adjourned to Sydney’s Downing Centre Local Court for sentence on January 14 2019.
