LIVERPOOL, England: The childhood home of Beatles guitarist George Harrison, 25 Upton Green in Speke, Liverpool, is up for auction.
Harrison moved to the house in 1949 when he was six years old, and later rehearsed there with John Lennon and Paul McCartney.
The Harrison family left the house in 1962, just as the Beatles were gaining success.
According to auctioneer Paul Fairweather, the three-bedroom property is “a steal,” costing between £160,000 and £200,000.
Harrison and Lennon both attended Dovedale Primary School, but they were unaware of each other due to their two-and-a-half year age gap.
The mid-terrace house, which was last on the market seven years ago when it was bought by a Beatles fan for £156,000, has undergone renovations, but retains some original features, including its bath, sink, doors and outbuildings, Fairweather said.
“George will have learned to play the guitar in this house, and the photos of the group gathering there in the early 1960s are amazing to see,” he added, noting he was expecting the imminent release of “The Beatles: Get Back” documentary by Lord of the Rings director Peter Jackson to generate more interest in the sale, adding there is an option to apply for a blue heritage plaque for the property, as reported by the BBC.
After the band’s break-up in 1970, Harrison continued to compose and perform music, and produced films with the Monty Python comedians.
Harrison died of cancer in 2001 at age 58.
