SYDNEY, NSW, Australia – A Sydney hotel has been evacuated for a second day in a row.
The Holiday Inn at Potts Point, near Kings Cross in inner Sydney, Australia’s largest city, was evacuated at 6:30pm on Saturday night.
Two fire brigades arrived on the scene within minutes of guests being alerted to a fire warning siren, which saw them spill out on to the street.
Just as the fire brigade was arriving hotel officials were informing guests it was a false alarm. Guests then began returning to their rooms, although a large number stayed to watch the firefighters enter the hotel with equipment.
It was the second time the hotel has been evacuation in just over 36 hours.
The first time however, in the early hours of Friday morning saw guests driven from their beds. The warning sirens sounded around 4:40am Friday morning. Two or three minutes later a loud voice on public speakers throughout the hotel was telling people to evacuate.
The entire hotel emerged from fire escapes on to the street below where they stood for 10 to 15 minutes even after the fire brigades arrived, before being informed it too was a false alarm.
