CAIRO, Egypt – The Egyptian air force has carried out an airstrike in Libya which has killed 8 militants.
Colonel Tamer al-Refai of the Egyptian military on Saturday confirmed the airstrike had taken place, in an area close to the Libyan border with Egypt.
He said eight militants which he described as “terrorists” were killed in the attack.
In his statement, the spokesman said the militants were plotting hostile acts in Egypt, but gave no details.
“The operation took place upon intelligence information that confirmed the presence of a cell in the western desert preparing for hostile acts,” al-Refai’s statement said.
Aside from the deaths of the militants, the Egyptian military spokesman said a hideout where arms and ammunition were stored, was destroyed in the airstrike.
