PERTH, Western Australia – The pre-eminent event for cops and fireys on the world stage will be heading to Western Australia.
The WA government on Friday announced it has secured hosting rights for the 22nd edition of the World Police and Fire Games which will be held in 2027.
A global spectacle, the biennial event attracts law enforcement and emergency services personnel from more than seventy countries to compete across 65 sporting events.
Set to entice thousands of visitors to the State, including 8,500 athletes, the Olympic-style multi-day showcase is expected to deliver significant economic, tourism and employment benefits to WA.
“One of the biggest mass sports participation events anywhere on the globe, this is the best type of major event you can get for tourism purposes,” Western Australian Minister for Police Paul Papalia said Friday.
“It brings large numbers of people for a long period of time and gets them out to the regions.”
WA Police were enthusiastic about the announcement. “Its a privilege to show off our State, Its a fantastic opportunity for all of us,” the state’s police commissioner Col Blanch said Friday.
