ANKARA, Turkey – U.S. airstrikes have killed at least 4 civilians in Afghanistan.
The strikes took place on Monday, according to local sources.
Army regiment spokesman Mohamed Hanif Rezai was quoted by the Anadolu Agency as saying that the NATO-led U.S. drone strikes targeted a Taliban camp in the Kurgan district of northern Faryab province.
Rezai said 14 militants were killed in the airstrikes, however he said he had no information about any civilian casualties.
Local resident Ihsan Makhdoum told Anadolu Agency his father and three other relatives were killed in the attack.
The Taliban have not made a statement on the issue.
The U.S. military is a partner of NATO’s Resolute Support Mission (RSM), which was initiated in January 2015, to train advise and assist the Afghan security forces and institutions to combat the Taliban and other militant groups operating within the country.
