Al-Shabab claims responsibility for deadly car bombing in Somalia

MOGADISHU, Somalia – Five people have been killed when a car laden with explosives blew up outside a restaurant, about 500 metres from the presidential palace.

The attack took place Thursday in the heart of the Somalian capital, Mogadfishu.

“The blast occurred at a checkpoint close to the National Theatre, we don’t have the details but there are casualties,” a security official said Thursday

Aside from those killed, another nine were wounded in the explosion, some serioiusly.

The al-Shabab militant group claimed responsibility for the bombing. Al-Shabab also claimed responsibility for the two suicide bombings last week which killed 36 people and wounded sixty.

The restaurant owner told local media a large number of guards from the presidential palace, and a number of security officers that man the security check-points frequent his restaurant.
