Tradies tools stolen in overnight crime spree in Blue Mountains

Feb 28, 2019

SPRINGWOOD, Blue Mountains, NSW, Australia – Tradies in the Blue Mountains should beware a current crime spree.

Since Wednesday night and into Thursday, a number of towns have been targeted including Blackheath, Blaxland and Mount Riverview.

Blue Mountains Police are urging all tradies to secure their tools and trucks.

Items that have been stolen include power tools, gardening equipment and even a tool box from the back of a ute.

“This crime is opportunistic, and these thieves can hit any suburb,” Blue Mountains Crime Prevention Officer, Senior Constable Melissa Rosevear said Thursday.

She is urging all tradies to think about making their tools harder to steal by dloing the following;

– If you are leaving tools in your vehicle overnight, then park in a garage where possible. Otherwise remove them if you can.

– ALWAYS LOCK YOUR VEHICLE when it is unattended, even at work sites. Where possible keep tools out of sight so that thieves are not tempted.

– If you drive a ute, consider investing in a sturdy, lockable ute toolbox and bolt it to the vehicle’s tray.

– ENGRAVE YOUR TOOLS for easy identification.

If you have any information on these thefts, you can call either Springwood Police Station on: (02) 4751 0299 or Katoomba Police Station on: (02) 82 8199 or report online at www.nsw.crimestoppers.com.au or call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 (24/7).
