Second teenager dies following Gilgandra car crash

GILGANDRA, Central West, NSW, Australia – A 16-year old boy has become the second victim of a car crash which occurred near Gilgandra, in the Central West last Sunday.

The boy was one of six young men who were travelling in a Ford Mondeo on the Castlereagh Highway at Gulargambone, about 25 kilometres north of Gilgandra around 6:30am last Sunday. The driver of the car, an 18-year old youth apparently lost control of the car, and it flipped over.

The driver was pronounced dead at the scene.

All five passengers in the car sustained injuries, but only the16-year old boy was critically injured. He suffered severe head wounds and was taken to Westmead Hospital. He died while there on Friday night.

Officers from theOrana-Mid Western Police District are investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash and appealing for anyone who witnessed it to come forward.

The vehicle had allegedly been stolen from a home in Coonamble the previous week.
