Police say Orange Men’s Shed set on fire deliberately

ORANGE, Central West, NSW, Australia – Police have established a fire that partially destroyed the Orange Men’s Shed at Lucknow was deliberately lit.

An investigation is now underway to determined who was behind the fire. Officers from the Central West Police District with the assistance of investigators attached to Strike Force Filshie are heading the investigation.

The fire was detected just before 3:00am on Saturday morning.

The range Men’s Shed is situated on the Mitchell Highway at Luncknell, just south of Orange.

Just after 3am (Saturday 29 June 2019), emergency services were called to a community workshop on the Mitchell Highway at Lucknow, south of Orange.

Fire and Rescue NSW and the Rural Fire Service attended and extinguished the blaze at about 4:15am.

Investigators have reviewed CCTV footage which depicts at least one person attempting to set firewood and other items stored alongside the building alight between 2.15am and 2.40am, before the fire spread to the building.

A number of vehicles can be seen driving past at the time.

Police are now appealing for anyone in the area at the time, who may have witnessed the incident or have dash cam footage, to contact Orange Police Station or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
