Police call for information on man missing in Blue Mountains for 12 years

Police have renewed efforts to obtain information about a man who went missing in the Blue Mountains 12 years ago this month.

Just before 6am on Sunday 27 August 2006, 35-year-old James West was seen at a service station on the Great Western Highway at Blackheath.

He was later seen on CCTV about 6.15am leaving Katoomba Railway Station and walking towards Katoomba Street, after disembarking a train from Blackheath.

A family member reported him missing to officers from the Blue Mountains Police Area Command and they launched an investigation.

An extensive search was conducted by local police, with assistance from Police Rescue in the area around Katoomba, however there was no sign of Mr West.

At the time of his disappearance, James West was described as being of Caucasian appearance, 175-180cm tall, of a medium build, with short brown hair and blue eyes.

A coronial inquest determined Mr West died on or about the time he went missing, however, nothing has been located and there were no findings regarding the place, cause or manner of his death.
