CENTRAL WEST, NSW, Australia – A patient who went missing from a mental health facility in the state’s Central West on Monday has been located.

The man, a patient at Bloomfield Hospital in Orange, managed by NSW Health was last seen in Bathurst around 11:30am on Monday.

The 48-year year old man has a history of violence and a search was mounted to locate him as he requires ongoing medical treatment.

“Following enquiries and a public appeal, police received information the man was at a hotel on Anderson Street, Parramatta, about 11:am today (Wednesday 26 August 2020), a statement from NSW Police published on Wednesday said.

Officers from Parramatta Police Area Command arrested the man who is in the process of being returned to the health facility at Orange.

“Police would like to thank the media and community for their assistance,” the statement said.

“NSW Health cannot discuss the specific circumstances for a patient who has appeared before the Mental Health Review Tribunal due to the requirements under the Mental Health Act 2007,” a NSW Health spokesperson told The Sydney Morning Herald on Monday when the man was first reported missing.

“Western NSW Local Health District will continue to work with NSW Police to locate and detain the patient and will take police advice on how the patient’s personal safety and the safety of the wider community can be protected.”
