Lithgow looks to future with Lake Wallace

Oct 1, 2018

LITHGOW, Central West, NSW, Australia – Big plans are afoot for Lake Wallace.

Lithgow Council has engaged a major planner to help devise a plan for the future development and management of the popular 44-hectare park, located on the western and northwestern shores of Lake Wallace.

Council too wants to hear from the community and has invited submissions, comments, ideas and suggestions from locals through their Have Your Say program.

Information and discussion sessions will also be held on site, one this Thursday (4 October 2018) from 12 noon to 6:00pm; and a second session on Saturday week (13 October 2018) from 10:00am to 4:00pm.

The Lake Wallace recreation area and park is managed by Lithgow Council under a lease from Energy Australia. It is popular for dog-walking, picnicking, exercise, fishing, sailing, kayaking and bird-watching. The site has a baseball diamond, an off-leash dog park, and houses the Wallerawang Sailing Club and the Lake Wallace Community Boating Centre. In recent years the recreation area has become increasingly used by campers as well as the caravan and RV community which, while positive, has placed additional demands on the facility.

Gondwana Consulting, which specialises in open space, recreation and environmental planning is the consultant group Council has engaged.

“Community involvement is central to the plan of management’s preparation,” Ray Thompson, Lithgow City Council Mayor said on the weekend. “It will ensure the plan considers and responds to community thoughts and ideas for the lake’s recreation area and its future management.”

Council plans on preparing a draft of the proposed plan which will be put on public exhibition, at which time the community will again have the opportunity to provide feedback.
