Historic Bridle Track to be re-opened

Sep 17, 2018

The historic Bridle Track road, which connects Bathurst to Hill End in the New South Wales Central West is to be re-opened.

The unsealed road has been closed since a rockfall at Monaghan’s Bluff eight years ago, in 2010, which made the road structurally unstable.

The NSW government announced on Monday it was committing $2 million to re-open the road.

“People have been wanting this to happen. I’m giving the good news today, we’re going to make it happen,” Member for Bathurst Paul Toole told a press conference on Monday.

The initiative is expected to be a boon for tourism in the region, particularly for the growing number of campers, who Mr Toole said has increased from 6,000 to 10,000 a year.

The Bridle Track dates back to the goldrush of the 1850s, and is ranked as one of the top 10 4WD routes in Australia.
