Harry and Meghan move to LA, to foot own security

Mar 30, 2020

LOS ANGELES, California – Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, and their son Archie, have moved from Canada to California – in the wake of the coronavirus outbreak.

With the U.S. far outpacing Canada in cases, it is unclear what motivated the move, other than Meghan’s mother lives in California. She grew up in the Los Angeles area, where her mother now lives.

The U.S., as of Sunday at 135,499, had the highest number of cases of Covid-19 in the world, with deaths now totaling 2,381.

U.S. President Donald Trump has reaffirmed his friendship with Harry’s mother, Queen Elizabeth, and the UK, but has ruled out footing the bill for the couple’s security.

Prince Harry and Meghan have similarly indicated they have no intention of asking the U.S. government to pay for their security.

The former Royals had security while in Canada, paid for by the Canadian government, however as their status as Royals ends on Tuesday, the government had announced it would no longer provide security.

“I am a great friend and admirer of the Queen & the United Kingdom. It was reported that Harry and Meghan, who left the Kingdom, would reside permanently in Canada. Now they have left Canada for the U.S. however, the U.S. will not pay for their security protection. They must pay!” the president said in a tweet posted on Sunday.

Prince Harry’s father, Prince Charles, has contracted coronavirus and is in self-quarantine.

“The duke and duchess have no plans to ask the U.S. government for security resources. Privately funded security arrangements have been made,” the couple said in a statement released by their office on Sunday.
