Fatal collision in Central West, third in 4 days

CENTRAL WEST, NSW, Australia – A freak and tragic incident involving a car and a truck in the state’s Central West has left a 38-year old woman dead.

It was the third road traffic crash in the Central West in 4 days.

The latest incident on Friday occurred when a Toyota Prado SUV carrying what is believed to have been a family of five was struck by debris from a truck travelling in the opposite direction.

The SUV crashed shortly after. The incident occurred just after 4:00pm Friday. Emergency services were called to the Newell Highway at Alectown, about 25 kilometres north of Parkes.

Upon arrival, officers from Central West Police District located the 38-year-old woman seriously injured. Despite attempts to revive her, she died at the scene.

The driver of the Toyota Prado, a 42-year-old man, and three boys aged 4, six and 9 were taken to Parkes Hospital as a precaution and have since been released.

The truck driver, a 52-year-old man, was also taken to Parkes Hospital for mandatory testing.

Officers from the Crash Investigation Unit are investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Two other fatal collisions have occurred on New South Wales Central West roads this week.

On Thursday, a motorcyclist believed to have been in his 60s, was killed when his motorcycle collided with a Holden Barina hatchback on Windeyer Road at Windeyer, about 30 kilometres south of Mudgee.

And on Monday night, a woman was killed in a head-on collision between a 4WD and a small truck on the Guntawang Road, Galambine, just north of Mudgee.
