Emerging musicians in Lithgow urged to get along to weekend workshop

LITHGOW, Central West, NSW Australia – Budding musicians from the New South Wales Central West city of Lithgow are being encouraged to get along to a song-writing weekend workshop this coming Saturday and Sunday.

Local young musicians aged from 12 to 25 will get first-hand knowledge and mentoring, learning all facets of the music industry from songwriting, studio recording, film clips, behind-the-scenes activity, the business side, stage performance, and how to grow and thrive in the live music scene.

This is a first in Lithgow, with Australian wide industry mentors. There are limited spaces, so applicants are being encouraged to register as soon as possible. The weekend workshop is a rare opportunity for youngsters seriously passionate about wanting to further their music career and learn from industry professionals, have fun & be a part of a community-based project. All creative-driven musicians who want to be a part of a team, be inspired, create, connect & learn, are encouraged to attend.

This is a community event for Lithgow’s talented youth. A full weekend workshop with industry professionals including songwriting director Lyn Bowtella 9 X Golden Guitar Winning Australian Singer/Songwriter.

The workshop is being put forward by Lithgow City Council, with support from a NSW Government Youth Opportunities grant and local organisations Centwest Entertainment and Mitchell Conservatorium.

“The opportunity to work with industry professionals is rare so this program is a boon for our young people in the region,” Mayor Ray Thompson said Monday.

The organisers have brought together internationally renowned songwriters Lyn Bowtell, winner of 9 Gold Guitars, and Australian Music royalty Kevin Bennet to lead a team of mentors for the songwriters’ weekend workshops. Lyn and Kevin will be teaming up with local songwriters/ performers Kell Hamilton and Dave Webb.

Young people will be working individually and in collaboration with each other to write their own songs and learn all the tips and tricks of the trade. This weekend of workshops is part of an ongoing series called Create Lithgow where young creatives are mentored to learn all aspects of working in the creative industries.
