Dramatic rescue in Blue Mountains, helicopter called in

Dec 31, 2018

WENTWORTH FALLS, Blue Mountains, NSW Australia – It was business as usual for the Blue Mountains Police Rescue squad and other first responders on Monday, the last day of 2018.

After attending to around 900 emergency and routine incidents this year, the crew was called into action Monday afternoon when a young man was seriously injured in a 10 metre fall at the Empress Waterfall (pictured) at Wentworth Falls, in the Blue Mountains.

Eight paramedic teams were called to the scene and ultimately a helicopter had to be called in to winch the man to safety.

Police said the man had been swimming with friends when he slipped.

In another incident, an international tourist slipped at Wentworth Falls also, getting her foot caught between rocks. She suffered a fractured ankle and a damaged knee.

The woman was able to be walked out with lots of assistance. She was then taken to Nepean Hospital by ambulance.
