Cyclist remains in critical condition after collision with utility

SPRINGWOOD, Blue Mountains, NSW, Australia – A cyclist remains in critical condition in Westmead Hospital after his bicycle collided with a utility in the Blue Mountains on Saturday afternoon.

The crash occurred around 2:40pm Saturday on the Great Western Highway near Macquarie Road at Springwood, causing one lane westward to be closed for a lengthy period.

Emergency services treated the male cyclist at the scene before he was taken to Westmead Hospital in a critical condition.

The man driving the utility was uninjured but was taken to Nepean Hospital for mandatory testing.

Officers from Blue Mountains Police Area Command established a crime scene with officers from the Crash Investigation Unit to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash.
