Apr 23, 2019

ORANGE, Central West, NSW, Australia – A 47-year old woman is recovering from a fractured sternum after the utility in which she was a passenger collided with a police vehicle on the Mitchell Highway in the New South Wales Central West late Monday afternoon.

The driver of the ute, a 46-year old man and two other passengers, children aged 8 and 12, as with the driver of the police vehicle, suffered only minor injuries.

All five people were taken to the Orange Health Service hospital in Orange, however only the 47-year old woman had to be hospitalised.

The drama began around 4 o'clock Monday afternoon when the Traffic & Highway Patrol vehicle, being driven by a Senior Constable attached to Chifley Highway Patrol, was on patrol eastbound on the Mitchell Highway, Orange.

The officer identified a vehicle that was speeding, so he activated his warning devices and attempted to make a U-turn to head westbound from the merging lane of the Mitchell Highway.

It was then that the police vehicle collided with the ute.

The circumstances of the crash are now being investigated by officers from the Central West Police District.
