Chalmers to deliver Light on the Hill address in Bathurst

BATHURST, Central West, NSW, Australia – Shadow Treasurer Jim Chalmers will visit Bathurst in September.

Chalmers was named Wednesday as the guest speaker for the Annual Light on the Hill dinner.

The occasion commemorates the life of former Bathurst native Ben Chifley who served as Australia’s prime minister from 1945 to 1949.

The dinner will be held on 28 September 2019 at Panthers Bathurst.

Chalmers entered the Australian parliament as the ALP Member for Rankin in Queensland in 2013. He has held a number of shadow portfolios including Shadow Minister of Finance, which he held from mid 2016 until 2nd June when he became Shadow Treasurer.

Before being elected to parliament, Chalmers coincidently was the Executive Director of the Chifley Research Centre and prior to that, Chief of Staff to the Deputy Prime Minister and Treasurer. He has a PhD in political science and international relations and a first class honours degree in public policy. He has taught politics at three universities.
