Central West police searching for man who fled RBT checkpoint

May 22, 2021

CENTRAL WEST, NSW, Australia – A man is being hunted in the New South Wales Central West after crashing his car following a police pursuit, and then leaving the scene of the crash, abandoning a seriously injured woman in the process.

The saga began when officers from the Orana Mid-Western Police District attempted to stop a Ford Falcon sedan in Dubbo for the purposes of a random breath test.

This occurred in the early hours of Saturday morning, at about 12:30am.

When the vehicle allegedly failed to stop, a pursuit was initiated by local police and officers from the Traffic and Highway Patrol Command. It was then terminated due to the nature of driving.

Several minutes later, police found the vehicle crashed into a power pole and fence on Fitzroy Street, North Dubbo.

The driver had left the scene; however, a 49-year-old woman found in the front passenger seat had suffered serious injuries and was taken to Dubbo Base Hospital.

Officers attached to the Crash Investigation Unit have been brought in from Sydney.
