ACT man recovering after being winched to safety in Bell

KATOOMBA, Blue Mountains, NSW, Australia – A rock climber who had to be winched to safety from a climbing area at Bell in the Blue Mountains, near Lithgow on Sunday morning remains hospitalised with back, rib and shoulder injuries.

The man, 29, from the ACT, was rock climbing in an area known as the Duck Wall sector at Bell, 20 kilometers east of Lithgow, and ten kilometres north of Mt Victoria.

He is believed to have fallen eight metres while climbing.

Blue Mountains Police Rescue and the New South Wales Ambulance Service were alerted to the man’s plight on Saturday night when the man fell.

The Toll Ambulance Rescue helicopter was called for, while a ground team of Police Rescue and Ambulance Special Operations treated the man on the ground.

The injured man was stabilised and received treatment throughout the night while remaining at the site where the fall occurred.

When dawn broke on Sunday morning, the rescue helicopter then winched the man out of the remote area where he had experienced his fall, and he was taken to hospital.
