70-year old man appears in Bathurst court after discovery of firearms

BATHURST, Central West, NSW, Australia – A man appeared at Bathurst Local Court on Friday following a massive search of a Central West property a day earlier which resulted in the discovery of numerous firearms, explosives and ammunition.

Many of the weapons are prohibited and all were unregistered.

The man arrested following the search is seventy years old.

The search, which took place on a property at Springvale Lane, Mount Collins, near Cowra commenced at 9:00am on Thursday. It was carried out by officers attached to the Western Region Enforcement Squad, with assistance from the Western Domestic Violence team, Western trail bikes, Chifley Police District, Chifley Target Action Group, the Dog Unit and Police Rescue.

Upon searching a shed on the property, police located and seized the stash of firearms and a large amount of ammunition and explosives.

The 70-year-old man was arrested and taken to Cowra Police Station where he was charged with nine offenses.

He was refused bail ahead of his appearance at Bathurst Local Court on Friday.
